The “Small Wedge,” a collaborative creation from Shinichi Moriguchi of “Kazetani Atelier” and Greenwoodwork Lab, is surprisingly capable. Though compact enough to fit in the palm of your hand, it can cleanly split large chestnut logs.
To reduce the risk of chipping, the cutting edge has been finished with a slightly obtuse angle. Even if it chips due to insufficient bite or hitting a stone, the edge can be readjusted by regrinding it with a grinder.
As each one is handcrafted by a blacksmith, there are slight variations in shape. However, this adds to their unique character, and their appeal as tools will deepen with use.
